The VU Hortus has a new fence. It was designed by artist Ruud- Jan Kokke and was officially opened with great interest.
“The new fence will give Hortus more character,” said John Sturm, president of the VU Hortus Friends. The Hortus was a bit tucked away unobtrusively. The fence before, did not look complementary to Hortus, but now it looks all the more attractive. ”
The design of the fence is abstract, but there are still clearly recognizable plant motifs. What Sturm mistook for birds, are in reality kiwi plant leaves with golden dots, Kokke explained. The sloping fence shape with square grid pattern is derived from the greenhouse on the grounds surrounding the famous cactus collection. The cactus forms are processed in the fence motif.
The new fence is a crown on the new, wide entrance to the Botanical Garden and give it recognition and identity.
