Commissioned by district Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, Kokke designs a 1 km long fence around the sports park Olympiaplein. The square is part of the former Olympic Games complex, fully embedded in a district designed by Berlage and shaped in the Amsterdam School style. The Park is situated between the Apollolaan and the Stadionweg, has two monumental entrance gates on the east side and the west side and a main gate on the south side. There has been collaboration with VHP Landscape Architects in designing the terrain décor. The fencing is hollow on the inside and convex on the outside. This expresses the enclosing ‘inside sentiment’ and the closed outside. The fencing has no poles but is constructed from square tubes that are aligned from thick to thin and are therefore very well capable of absorbing the force; the fencing meanders around it. This also provides a breaking of the long sides (400 meters) and makes it a lot more pleasant to walk by it. On the south side Ruud-Jan Kokke has also shaped the Amsterdam memorial for Fanny Blankers-Koen by designing a text and letter type.
